Reiki

“The effect of Reiki lies in its simplicity
It is what it is… nothing more, nothing less
It is simple in its practice and theory
It is limitless in its potential”

Reiki is a gentle and safe holistic system of healing that works to balance and harmonise mind, body, spirit and emotions.

What Does The Word Reiki Mean?

Reiki, pronounced 'ray-key', is a system of energy healing originating from Japan. The word Reiki itself translates to mean 'universal life energy' and is based on the belief that life energy flows through all living things.

When this energy becomes disrupted or blocked, it is believed that stress and disease follow.

Reiki practitioners use the universal life energy they have been attuned to, to promote natural healing. Reiki is also a system of healing and spiritual development as taught by Dr Usui, the founder of Reiki.

How Does Reiki Work?

Ki or Life Force Energy runs throughout our bodies through energetic channels or pathways called Meridians. These channels or pathways can easily become blocked through stress, emotions, trauma or illness, causing the body to function less efficiently. Imagine a meridian is like a hosepipe and an illness is like a stone that is trapped in the hosepipe.

High pressure will build in one end and low pressure in the other. Reiki aims to release the stone that is causing the imbalance of pressure and direct the free flow of energy throughout the body to bring about self-healing and normalize the functions of the body.

The joy of Reiki is that it goes to the heart of the problem and works on clearing any blockages and restoring the healthy flow of Ki

What to expect during a Reiki Session?

When you come for a Reiki session, I’ll begin by taking a little time to talk with you about how you’re feeling, what has brought you to Reiki and anything you feel is important for me to know. This helps me create a safe, comfortable and supportive space for your treatment.

A session usually lasts around an hour. You remain fully clothed and can relax comfortably on the treatment couch or in a chair. There’s no need to remove any clothing – simply your shoes and glasses, and occasionally jewellery if it could catch. No oils, massage or physical manipulation are involved.

During the session, I gently place my hands on, or slightly above, different areas of the body. You may experience warmth, coolness, tingling, a feeling of lightness or deep relaxation – or perhaps nothing noticeable at all. Everyone is unique, and there is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.

I love the simplicity of Reiki. There is no special preparation or equipment needed, and it can be received comfortably through clothing, even through a plaster cast.

Working with the body’s energy field and, within the Reiki tradition, the chakras, my intention is to support relaxation, balance and overall wellbeing. It’s a beautiful opportunity to pause, switch off and reconnect with yourself.

If you’re unable to attend in person, I also offer distance Reiki, allowing us to work together remotely in a calm and supportive way.

The Benefits Of Reiki

  • Due to its deeply relaxing nature, Reiki can be beneficial for many different situations.

  • It can be helpful for those who may be feeling overwhelmed and stressed as Reiki can help to bring about a sense of peace and calm, helping you feel better and able to cope with the challenges life can throw your way.

  • The calming effect of a Reiki treatment can also be beneficial throughout pregnancy as it can be hugely supporting throughout the pregnancy journey.

  • Children and animals can benefit from Reiki as it relaxes and soothes.

  • Some people find that Reiki encourages and supports positive lifestyle choices.

  • When used in conjunction with medical treatment, rebalancing energy can help to manage symptoms of anxiety, fatigue and pain.

  • Reiki can be used for short-term problems or in an ongoing capacity to promote overall health and wellbeing.

  • Remember, Reiki is a complementary therapy. If you have a health concern, visit your doctor and seek medical advice. Reiki should not be used in place of your doctor's recommendations; it should be used alongside your treatment to aid healing.

How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. It is important to remember that Reiki healing is a process, and therefore may take a number of sessions. Generally the more chronic and long-term the concern is, the more sessions it will require.
